September 28. On this day in 1878, my great-uncle, Jason S. Dorsey, was born to Alexander Dorsey and Eliza BOYD Dorsey. Seven years later, in 1885, his half-sister, Amanda E.D. Dorsey, was born in Hindsville, Arkansas to Alexander Dorsey and Mary Jane PERRY Dorsey.

September 30, 1891 marks the birth of my 3x great-uncle, James Picklesimer, in Johnson Fork, Magoffin, Kentucky. He is the last biological child of David Picklesimer and Sarah PRATER Picklesimer. (Sarah went on to have several more children fathered by other men and given the surname Picklesimer.) On this day in 1905, George W.S. Shipman, my 2x great-uncle, died in Haleyville, Winston, Alabama.

On October 1, 1820 in Pennsylvania, Mary “Polly” BATES was born. She and her husband, Amos W. Fry, were my 2x great-grandparents. My great-aunt, Mary Hazel Baker, was born on this day in 1900. She was the daughter of George Hiram Baker and Julia Caroline SHIPMAN Baker.

October 2, 1996 marks the death of my great-grandmother, Kate HAMMONS McGinnis. She died at the age of 97 in Springdale, Washington, Arkansas. She was buried in the Colbaugh Cemetery in Hindsville, Madison, Arkansas on the 7th of October.
